Jon Andersen, one of our talented colleagues at the library (he's a drummer in a local band, "Lonely Hearts" -- but no website just yet), brought Blackle to my attention this afternoon, and I feel compelled to share it on the blog.

It's a search engine designed to "save energy because the screen is predominantly black." As they further explain on their website: "Blackle was created by Heap Media to remind us all of the need to take small steps in our everyday lives to save energy. Blackle searches are powered by Google Custom Search." Read more about Blackle.

And while we're on the subject of environmental awareness, don't miss Leonardo DiCaprio's The 11th Hour. It hits theaters nationwide August 24th.
