Kamishibai
Kamishibai is the Japanese art of storytelling and literally means 'paper drama'. Kamishibai was introduced to me by the former Riverside librarian, Mrs. Havlik, who has a love for Japanese culture. After trying Kamishibai myself I was hooked! This year, I introduced Kamishibai to third grade students at Riverside to accompany their class unit on Japan. They listened to many Kamishibai stories on a traditional tabletop Kamishibai stage. Students were so fascinated by the stories they decided to make their own Kamishibai story. We had a lot of fun, and Job Corps volunteers helped the students write and illustrate their stories!
